2008 Photo of the Year: Russian ice dancers Jana Khokhlova & Sergei Novitski
Last week I received my July/August issue of The Professional Skater magazine and on the cover was the 2008 Photo of the Year (see below), and what a photo! Taken by noted French photographer Olivier Brajon, it shows Russian ice dancers Jana Khokhlova and Sergei Novitski in their free dance costumes skating to A Night on the Bald Mountain. Jana and Sergei are the bronze medalists in ice dancing at the 2008 ISU World Figure Skating Championships, as well as being the 2008 Russian Champions and 2008 European bronze medalists. They seem to pop out of the photo, don’t they?
The award for Photo of the Year, as well as Coach of the Year and other honors, were handed out at the annual Professional Skaters Association (PSA) conference held in May of this year. The PSA is the official coaches’ education certification and training program for U.S. Figure Skating. But the magazine’s audience is not limited to PSA members who are coaches. I, for one, enjoy reading the articles in the magazine because the topics covered are universal to anyone involved in skating: skating ethics (for skaters and skating parents), communication (for coaches), medical advice, legal advice, to name just a few. This particular issue had an interesting piece on identity theft. We often forget that coaches levitra travel a lot for tests, competitions and shows, and inevitably, use credit cards, which means that the risk of identity theft increases. The article discussed ways to protect yourself and what to do if you have been the victim of identity theft. So I encourage anyone involved in skating who wishes to have a multi-faceted understanding of our wonderful sport to subscribe!
